Project Inventory
Besides the projects already discussed, the following was noted:
- Electronic Catalog Standards - AAIA is writing an XML specification.
This effort needs to be coordinated with the MEMA XML standards as well as the
PIES specification to avoid duplicating tags.
- Fleet Cataloging - No activity from HDDA or CFS
- Specialty Cataloging - It is not clear whether SEMA has begun
writing their own cataloging standard. Consensus is that the enhanced vehicle
configuration database from AAIA and PIES standards address their concern about
applications that are not year-make-model driven. Scott Luckett volunteers to
communicate with SEMA to advise them of changes and learn of any objections.
- Special Order Inquiry - Earl will check to see whether the
inquiry/response format of Direct Connect II can be made available
Increasing ACEC participation
Ed Wolff described ACEC as a "consortium of associations"
therefore the resolution of support by associations is important. The following
action items were recommended:
- Have the participating associations officially recognize the role of the
ACEC. Members are those who have recognized the council. Others are invited
guests
- Have more informative presentations as part of the meeting format and
advertise who the speakers will be. The ideal is 75% presentation / 25% open
discussion
- Get the participation of leading industry players (early adopters) and
invite testimonials. The invitation should include a list (teaser) of the
speakers
- Schedule meetings around industry events such as Global and AAPEX whenever
possible
- Include an ACEC Mission Statement with meeting invitations so new
participants are clear about the objectives of the council
- Include in meeting packets a summary of the resolutions pending before the
Council
- Publish minutes, news releases, and meeting announcements on ACEC
letterhead with the names and logos of the participating associations
- Draft an Executive Summary describing the objectives, accomplishments, and
future goals of the ACEC for prospective new members. Scott volunteered to
draft the document and circulate for review and comment.

XML Task Force
Ed Wolff suggested the formation of an ACEC XML committee to coordinate
standards coming from the respective associations. The original members of the
Task Force (committee) should include AAIA (Alise Miner, Relco), MEMA (Ed
Wolff, Dana) and CIECA (Roger Caderet). After brief discussion, Scott made a
motion to form an XML Task Force. Earl seconded the motion and the motion
passed. Scott will be staff facilitator for the XML Task Force.
The formation of the Task Force will be announced at the Aftermarket
Internet Summit meeting on March 13. Other associations will be invited to
participate. The Task Force is expected to conduct their business via e-mail
and conference calls until they meet for ½ day before the next ACEC
meeting. The Task Force will report at the next ACEC meeting.
Other Business
- Earl suggests that AIAG should be the initial organization from the OEM
side invited to participate in ACEC. Scott replied that AAIA was a member of
AIAG and volunteered to begin the dialog.
- Ed Wolff said he would make a presentation about the ACEC at MISG Users
Conference called EC Directions, March 19-20.
- Dave Elliott will coordinate with AIA to ensure Canadian representation on
the XML task force.
NEXT MEETING - The next meeting was set for the afternoon of Wednesday, May
16 in Chicago. AAIA volunteered to be meeting facilitator and will arrange
facilities for the XML Task Force to meet in the morning.
