Action Items
ACEC Project Inventory Enhanced e-CAT standards The Make/Model table and Part Definition tables that support the AAIA X.12 832 for Electronic Catalog are being made relational in structure and enhanced with additional data. The resulting database will make the AAIA electronic catalog standard appropriate for use by CCI-Triad and NAPA in addition to the current practitioners of the AAIA standard. Estimated time of completion - 4th quarter 2001. Product Information Exchange Standard 2.0 The PIES specification has been enhanced with additional data attributes and minor adjustments in architecture based on feedback from the heavy-duty segment and other users. The Draft 2.0 document is complete and PIES 2.0 will be presented for ACEC approval during the summer when the XML and EDI components are complete. i·SHOP Manufacturers of PC-based shop equipment and systems are developing a specification to enable connectivity and data sharing across applications in the vehicle service industry. An ioSHOP Software Developers Kit (SDK) will be available in the 3rd quarter and compliant product is expected in the 4th quarter. Industry Gateway O'Reilly Auto Parts has successfully completed (April 22, 2001) prototype testing of an internet-based stock inquiry performed via the Internet with Gates Rubber. By distributing Java applets to the data partners, a transaction was conducted browser-to-browser. With proof of concept complete, O'Reilly will continue testing with other business partners. Upon completion, the application software will be available as an open industry standard for use by anyone in the industry. AAIA will host facilities to distribute the Gateway software. AWDA Bar Code Guidelines Al Jones reported that the Industry Guidelines for Bar Coding in the Aftermarket were maintained by MEMA for some time before they were turned over to AWDA and published in 1995. Given the changing standards for automatic product identification described by Jim Petragnanai of the UCC, AWDA and UCC will collaborate on a revision to the current guidelines. A draft is expected by September for the next ACEC meeting. CIECA Collision Industry e-Commerce Roger Cadaret reported that EDI specifications have been completed for the following transactions: authorization to do work; a billing transaction and a remit funds transaction. These transactions are available for the following types of repair:
Collision Industry Surveys Shops, insurance companies and rental car companies all survey the customer following the repair. CIECA has identified a project around establishing guidelines for surveys. XML in the Collision Industry CIECA has formed a study group to analyze the elements of XML and determine where it has application in the collision industry. They will share their findings with the ACEC. Roger observed that the OE Connection model (Bell & Howell and auto OEM's) looks "really smooth" and is likely to succeed. OE Connection has agreed to join CIECA and Roger will ensure that Aftermarket Standards are integral to OEC. Closing Remarks -Scott plugged the eAftermarket Forum that AAIA and AWDA are producing July 31 - August 1 in Chicago. Al Jones offered to host the next meeting of the ACEC at the headquarters in Research Triangle in September (exact date to be determined). There being no new business, the Council adjourned.
