ACEC Meeting Minutes
July 30, 1998

Summary of Second ACEC Meeting -- Chairman Bonham gave a summary of the second ACEC meeting that was held on July 30 at the Four Points Sheraton in Schiller Park, Illinois. He asked for and received unanimous approval of the minutes of the July 30 meeting.

Organization of the ACEC - Voting rules established at the July 30 meeting were one vote for each association and the association vote would be either by member or association representative. The voting rules were not changed. The issue if a person could represent more than one association was discussed and voted down. It was also decided that no participant who could profit from the work of the ACEC should attend the meetings.

Certification of Standards - APAA Catalog Standards certification status -- A discussion of what the certification of the APAA catalog standards should include took place. APAA reported that over 100 major companies are subscribing to the standard. APAA also stated that the subscription fees only covered 54 % of the project costs. Many of the ACEC members said that the cost for subscription should be the same for all members of the ACEC even if they are not a member of APAA. The suitability of the APAA standards for the Heavy duty and Specialty and Equipment markets was also discussed. Committee members felt that new tables would have to be developed for these industries instead of using the standard make model tables. A discussion of what was to be certified took place. There was confusion concerning if the 832 standard or the standard and the make model tables were being certified. Because version 4010 of the 832 will be released in December for comment the committee tables discussion of certification of the APAA catalog standards until the next meeting. A copy of the 4010 version of the standards will be sent out in December to all ACEC members for their review.

AWDA Bar Code Standards certification status. -- The certification of the APAA bar code standards until the next meeting. AWDA will mail out current copies of the bar code standards in January and if any changes are needed ACEC members should bring them to the next meeting.

Addition of Projects to the ACEC Project Inventory - Pete Paquette representing the Truck Manufacturing Council made a presentation on VMRS codes and asked that VRMS codes be added to the ACEC project inventory. The ACEC committee approved the addition of VRMS codes to the project inventory.

Industry Wide Y2K test day - The ACEC Committee decided to publicize all possible links to Y2K information, but decided not to set up a test day.

ACEC Chat Site - The statistics of usage of the ACEC web and chat site were published to the committee.
