Administrative Activities

Call to order Jim Bonham called the meeting to order at 12:30pm.

James Petragnani of the Uniform Code Council said that the UCC would like to become a member of the ACEC. The council voted unanimously to accept UCC of as a member of the council.

Presentation of UCC Vision and Future Plans
James Petragnani of the Uniform Code Council gave a presentation entitled The Uniform Code council and The Global Language of Business. A copy of the presentation is attached to the minutes. He noted that Electronic Commerce standards development services are available at no cost from the UCC. He also discussed reduced space symbology and composite bar codes. He mentioned the conversion to variable length vendor codes and GTIN numbering designations.

Appointment of a New Chairman
Since no one had volunteered to succeed Jim Bonham as chairman of the ACEC the council approved a plan to have the associations serve as sponsor for each of the ACEC meetings. This sponsorship will include facilitation, secretarial support and administrative support for the meetings. MEMA will sponsor the next meeting to be held on April 19 and April 20. AAIA will sponsor the August 16 and August 17 meeting. AIA Canada upon their approval will sponsor the meeting on November 15 and November 16. The sponsoring association will select the meeting location.

Scott Luckett of AAIA will survey all associations currently listed in the ACEC roster to determine their support of the council. He will report his findings to all ACEC members.

Certification of the X12 Standards
Ed Kuo of HDDA said that all necessary changes proposed by the HDDA had been incorporated in to the draft X12 standards. The ACEC then voted to unanimously to approve the draft X12 standards submitted by MEMA for the purchase order, purchase order change, advance ship notice and invoice.

Al Jones of MEMA volunteered to put out a press release regarding the certification of the X12 draft standards and said he would also mention the previous certifications in the press release.

Jim Bonham asked if any other standards would be submitted for certification in the next year. Scott Luckett said that AAIA was working the PIES standard and it might be ready for certification by the April ACEC meeting. He also said that AAIA is working on the Shop Integration standards and that these might also be ready by the April meeting.

Project Inventory Updates

Review of the status of the ACEC Project Inventory. Notes of the project inventory discussion are summarized below. Also see the attached spreadsheet, which has been revised.

Electronic Cataloging
Scott Luckett gave an update on the Electronic Cataloging project being maintained by AAIA. AAIA has completed reconciliation between the Mitchell database and the AAIA database. Only eight discrepancies were found between the two databases. Scott also stated that 100s of new vehicle would be added to the AAIA database in January.

Fleet Electronic Cataloging
HDDA who has been assigned the Fleet Electronic Cataloging project will discuss the project at their meeting. They will also try to work with a fleet company such as Fleetcross to define the requirements for the project.

Specialty Products Cataloging

No Updates

PIES, Product Information Exchange Standards.

The committee has completed X12 832 Field definition and a draft will be given to the AAIA electronic commerce committee in January.

Supply Chain Management

Inquiry Special Order Process

Mike Williams of Ozark Auto is working on an open standard for Internet based electronic commerce including on-line access. He will make a report AAIA by January on the project status.

Stock Order Process

EDI X12 Transactions

The Council certified transaction sets 810, 850, 855 & 856 Transaction sets 820 & 852 are in development.

UN/EDIFACT EDI Transactions

There is no update from AIA Canada on 850 to EDIFACT conversion project. MEMA has published European working group standards on the web site. Von Heck Company is using the guidelines.

Supplier Assisted Inventory Replenishment

Marketing of this concept to suppliers and distributors is needed, since a program has not been successful in the traditional aftermarket. Discussions with VMI Service providers need to occur for this program to be successful. The project is moving slowly. No information on the status of this project has been provided to the council. by Mike Williams.

Electronic Warehouse Management

UCC will make the changes to bar code guidelines for review by AWDA.

Internet Based EC

MEMA has an Internet based EC System running and will be piloting the system after 1st of the year and be in production in the second quarter. The system allows trading partner independence (Van to Internet) and (Internet to Internet). If offers X12 on net translation and can process a Transnet flat file.

Year 2000 Awareness

A person has issued a patent on the windowing technique for Y2K remediation and is asking for royalties.

VMRS

UCC is building some WEB based products using XML. No Action

Shop Integration
Two task force meetings will be held in December by AAIA to develop standards for shop floor Integration.

Next Meeting
It was moved by Jim Bonham, second, and passed to adjourn.

The next meeting will be held April 19 and April 20 and MEMA will facilitate and host the meeting.
